Napoli Set to Sign Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho for £40M Amid Club's Struggles

Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, are on the verge of securing a £40M deal for Manchester United's 20-year-old winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to The Guardian. The transfer, reported on June 2, 2025 comes as United face a turbulent period, finishing 15th in the Premier League with 42 points and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham. Fans have criticized the move, arguing Garnacho’s value is closer to £60M, with some calling the deal "robbery in broad daylight."
Garnacho, who joined United’s academy in 2020 and made 144 appearances with 26 goals, has struggled under manager Ruben Amorim. Sources reveal Amorim told Garnacho to "find a new club" after benching him in key matches, including a semi-final loss to Athletic Club. Napoli, managed by Antonio Conte—who won the 2024-25 Serie A title—see Garnacho as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, sold to PSG for €70M. Despite Garnacho’s preference to stay in the Premier League, no English clubs have matched Napoli’s bid. United may use the transfer to pursue Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, as they aim to rebuild amid financial strain and a post-season tour to Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
