Salah Penalty Secures Liverpool's Victory at Girona

Liverpool
continued their perfect start to the Champions League season with a 1-0 win against Girona on Tuesday, thanks to a second-half penalty from Mohamed Salah.

This sixth consecutive victory keeps Liverpool at the top of the group standings with 18 points, five ahead of Inter Milan, who play later against Bayer Leverkusen. Girona remains at the bottom of the table with three points, suffering their fifth loss in the competition.

Girona made Liverpool work hard for the win, creating several chances in the first half, but were denied by Liverpool's goalkeeper Alisson, who was making his return from a hamstring injury.

Despite struggling against a well-organized Girona side that opted for a defensive strategy, Liverpool broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute. Salah converted a penalty after Luis Diaz was fouled in the box.

"Six wins out of six is an incredible achievement. It’s not easy to do, or more teams would manage it," said Liverpool defender Andy Robertson. "We’ve played better than tonight, but at this point, it’s all about winning and securing qualification."
Liverpool started the match with early pressure, generating two chances. Defender Joe Gomez's close-range header was saved by Girona's Paulo Gazzaniga, who later denied Darwin Nunez as well.

Girona, with all players behind the ball, looked to counter-attack. Alisson was called into action multiple times, notably saving a close-range attempt from Alejandro Frances and later punching away a shot from Miguel Gutierrez.
"We competed well and had our chances, but we have to accept the loss," said Frances. "It's important to take positives from facing a great team."

Nunez had another shot saved after a pass from Salah, while Girona's Yaser Asprilla tested Alisson with a shot from outside the box that was parried away.

At the start of the second half, Alisson again made a crucial save from Arnaut Danjuma. However, Liverpool finally found their breakthrough when Donny van de Beek fouled Diaz, leading to Salah's penalty opportunity.

Salah, who missed a penalty in the previous Champions League match against Real Madrid, made no mistake this time, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and placing the ball into the bottom corner.
Despite increased possession from Liverpool in the latter stages, Girona struggled to create any significant chances for an equalizer, allowing Liverpool to leave the Estadi Montilivi with all three points.
