AFF Championship: Indonesia held to 3-3 draw by Laos

Indonesia drew 3-3 with Laos in their Group B match of the 2024 AFF Championship on Thursday. The match was played at Manahan Stadium in Solo.

First Half
Laos opened the scoring early, in the ninth minute. After a midfield turnover, Bounphachan Bounkong found Phousomboun Panyavong with a through ball, and Panyavong finished clinically to make it 1-0.
Indonesia responded quickly, equalizing just two minutes later. A goalmouth scramble ensued, and Kadek Arel capitalized, firing home a shot to level the score at 1-1.
But Laos wasn't done. Another swift counter-attack saw Bounkong set up Phathana Phommathep, who finished decisively to regain the lead, 2-1.
Indonesia, however, refused to back down. Pratama Arhan's precise throw-in found Ferrari, who headed the ball into the net to level the score once again, 2-2.
The remainder of the first half saw Indonesia dominate possession, controlling 70% of the ball. They created 15 scoring chances, with five on target, compared to Laos' two shots on goal. Despite this dominance, the score remained 2-2 at halftime.

Second Half
In a dramatic second half, Indonesia's coach, Shin Tae-yong, made three early substitutions to revitalize his team. However, despite dominating possession and creating several chances, they were unable to capitalize.
A turning point came in the 68th minute when Indonesia was reduced to ten men after a red card to Marselino Ferdinan. Despite the setback, they continued to press forward, with Rafael Struick coming close to scoring in the 71st minute.
Just a minute later, Indonesia regained the lead through a Ferrari header from a Dony Tri corner. But their joy was short-lived as Laos equalized again in the 77th minute.
Despite further substitutions and continued dominance, Indonesia couldn't find the winning goal, and the match ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
