Vietnam Midfielder Hoang Duc: "The Indonesian Team Has Made Significant Progress"

Midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc stated that the Vietnamese team is preparing to implement strategic tactics when facing Indonesia in the ASEAN Cup 2024 (formerly known as the AFF Cup).

Hoang Duc was chosen for an interview during the Vietnam team's training session on December 11. In the upcoming Group B match, the Vietnamese team will take on Indonesia, regarded as the strongest opponent in the group. Commenting on this challenge, Hoang Duc said, "As far as I know, they won't have as many naturalized players as they did in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup. Most of their players have experience in the national championship."

Reflecting on past encounters, he added, "I had the chance to face them at this venue (Viet Tri) during the SEA Games. I believe the upcoming match will be a good one. Indonesia has made significant strides, and our team will have a strategy to tackle them."
In Vietnam's recent 4-1 victory over Laos on December 9, Hoang Duc's performance was not highly regarded. He acknowledged that he did not play to his potential in the opening match. "In the first half against Laos, the team started a bit hastily and attacked too quickly. Objectively, the pitch conditions were quite poor, which led to some unfavorable ball reception situations and mistakes."

"I didn't perform well, but I've learned from this experience alongside the team. In the match against Indonesia, I will give my all. The entire team is committed to playing fiercely and securing a victory. We aim for the best results in every match," Hoang Duc shared.

The match between Vietnam and Indonesia is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on December 15 at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).
